Summary

Billy is affordable and an easy-to-use cloud application packed with features like billing, invoicing, accounting, expense management, quote management, contact management and financial reporting. Perfect for small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs that need a simple invoicing and accounting solution.

The software is not as mature in terms of feature set as it’s more polished competitors in the space but it certainly does the job it sets out to do well.

Experience

Dashboard

The dashboard of the application focuses on offering you an overview of your invoices. It’s a useful view to get a snapshot of what is happening in your business at a glance.

The left-hand side offers you a simple menu to access the other core parts of the application.

Invoices

Creating an invoice is straight-forward. Almost all of it is simple click and go, especially if you have created products, customers and tax rates before hand.

Just a few clicks you can generate and send an invoice. Sending of invoices are explicit tasks, which is great for those of us that are prone to making mistakes.

Bills

Billy allows you to manage bills through an import function or manually capturing them into the system.

This is a handy way to have a big picture view of your cashflow as a business. It also makes it simpler to deal with your accountant later on.

Contacts

Creating a new contact is a simple process. The interface relies on modal windows to allow you to capture details quickly.

Bank Sync

Billy synchronises with 9000 banks out of the box. After a discussion with their team they mentioned that this list will be expanded and soon you will be able to sync with even more banks around the globe.

Settings

Under the ‘Settings’ tab there is a plethora of options to customize your invoices, the theme for the dashboard, integrate your credit card payment processor (Stripe) and much more.

The application offers a large number of customization options.


Customer Support

I used Billy support about 5 times for various questions I had about the service. Each time the response was prompt and clear. They use the intercom chat widget to provide support on the application itself. You can also e-mail them your issues.

Support seems to be mostly on weekdays, so you may find that on weekends your queries may go unanswered. This could be an issue if you are a power user with an urgent issue, but for most of their users I do not think it will be an issue to wait till Monday morning to resolve an issue.
